ANUSARA YOGA
IMMERSION 2010
With Lynne Paterson, Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor - Dates TBA
The Immersion Program, developed by Anusara founder, John Friend is both an invitation to delve into the profound teachings of Anusara Yoga and Tantric philosophy, and an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and learn to effectively apply these unifying principles in your daily practice and life. The full Immersion Program (108 hrs total) is presented in three segments (36 hours each), that flow sequentially. Students who complete all three parts will meet the 100 hour minimum requirement to apply for any Anusara Yoga teacher training in the world. You may take all 3 parts as one course, or individually (in order 1-2-3) over time as your interest and schedule allow. Through the Immersion process you will discover more subtle aspects of your self/Self through study, practice and discourse. A unique aspect of Immersion is that you can delight in the learning process, without any expectation or requirement to teach.Part 1: "Step into the Flow of Grace"
Through yoga practice we become self-reliant, strong and flexible- and yet there is more to experience: yoga becomes an opportunity to connect directly with the power source of Pure Consciousness, that which we call Grace. We’ll explore what it means to live simultaneously from the place of self-effort and Grace, and how that experience can enrich your life forever.Topics:
- Practice asana from the Level 1 syllabus
- Study the main universal principles of alignment
- Explore the anatomy of feet and legs
- Practice basic pranayama and meditation
- Learn a process for effective contemplation
- Discuss essential Tantric concepts which inform the vision of Anusara Yoga
- Cover an overview of the history of yoga
- Explore Adhikara - how to cultivate studentship as a yoga practitioner
- Main text: Tantra, Georg Feurstein
PART 2: "The Heart of Transformation"
As we dive deeper into the study of yoga we begin to experience the practices as a vehicle of growth and change; Divine Consciousness -herself- compels us to transform at every level of our being. We’ll cultivate the connection to our hearts’ deepest desire, so we can express what is most authentic and thereby create a life of exquisite meaning, purpose and beauty.Topics:
- Continue Level 1 asana and introduce Level 2 syllabus
- Deepen our understanding and use of the universal principles of alignment
- Anatomy of the spine and hips
- Introduce intermediate styles of pranayama and meditation
- Refine our contemplation skills
- Study the 36 Tattvas (how the One becomes the many) and the Five Elements
- Subtle energy body anatomy (kundalini, chakra, koshas, nadis, vayus)
- Main text: Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, any translation
Part 3: "The Light of Revelation"
The Tantric perspective is unique: embodied human life mirrors Supreme Consciousness - in effect you are born essentially free, whole and good. As the light of revelation ‘switches on’ we become more aware of the divine presence more of the time -this Light is our very nature.Topics:
- Continue intermediate asana from the Level 2 syllabus
- Deepen our study and use of alignment principles
- Explore the anatomy of the shoulders and the upper body.
- Expand intermediate pranayama and meditation
- Study the anatomy of the breath
- Advance our practice of adhikara (studentship)
- Main text, The Bhagavad Gita, any translation
About Lynne Paterson, R.Y.T., Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher:
Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher (2003) and Registered Yoga Alliance (RYT500). I have practiced hatha yoga since 1980 (Iyengar, Flow, Kundalini) and came to Anusara Yoga in 1997. I studied ardently with Deb Neubauer from 1997-2003, trained exclusively with John Friend, the founder of Anusara, for certification from 2000-2003. My yoga study is a continuous process to deepen and ripen the soul, and to discover infinite ways to express the love I have inside. To nourish myself, I follow many senior teachers and attend the annual Rajanka Tantra philosophy summer retreats with Professor Douglas Brooks. In December ’08, my husband and I will make a pilgrimage to South India with Prof. Brooks on a tour of temples and sacred sites in the homeland of Rajanka Tantra Yoga. I have a passion for beautiful natural environments, and love to be on wild land. I am constantly amazed at the healing power and precision of Anusara therapeutics. I engage in yogic scriptural study and dialogue as a way of contemplating life. I strive to tether these elements into a meaningful class experience - rich in poetic imagery, storytelling and purpose. With heart and humor, I convey the insights that life has given me, in order to inspire my students to reach for their highest potential. My husband, George, and I are currently building a 12-sided yoga studio “temple” on our land in Goshen, Massachusetts. We intend to open in Spring 2009. We’ll offer sacred space for retreats, classes, workshops, gatherings and adventures! For more information please visit our website: prakasayoga.com Stay tuned!
